Number of tourists rose by 8.5% in 2007

The number of tourists who visited Greece in 2007 rose by 8.5% compared to the previous year, data of Greek statistical service showed. According to the data, 92.7% of the tourists came from Europe, up 9.9% compared to 2006. In 2006 and 2007 the majority of the tourists were from Britain (15%), Germany (12.9%), and Italy (6.6%). The Greek airports with the largest number of arrivals were Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, with 22.1% of the arrivals, the airports of Heraklion (11.9%), Rhodes (7.9%), Corfu (4.8%) and Thessaloniki (4.4%), while the charter flights in 2007 registered a 2.6% rise.
