EUR 643m for infrastructure projects

Over EUR 643 million have been allocated by the Secretary General of Ports and Port Policy for 34 projects, the most important of which is the construction of piers I and II of the Piraeus port by the Chinese company Cosco. The planned cost for the project is of EUR 320 million and the beginning of work is scheduled for the first months of next year.

Another important project is the construction of the Piraeus exhibition centre (estimated cost: about EUR 80 million). For its part, according to the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) in Athens, the Piraeus Port Authority has planned for the construction of facilities for maintenance and the improvement of electromechanical plants (EUR 1.2 million), pier maintenance (EUR 1.2 million) and infrastructure maintenance. For these last three projects, the Port Authority has planned to announce the tenders by the end of November.

In Thessaloniki, four projects have been planned for the port: the restoration of the rail line (estimated cost EUR 1 million), the purchase of four cranes (EUR 15 million), the purchase of a road transport crane (EUR 3.2 million) and the purchase of other technologically advanced equipment for the transport of containers and goods (EUR about 1.3 million). Other projects have been planned for the ports of Igoumenitsa, Kavala and Patras.
