Hotels in Greece offering lower rates

In what experts interpret as a sign of nervousness, travel companies have begun slashing prices on flights and holidays, with some hotel rooms in the Mediterranean on offer for under six euro a night.
Two people, according to a recent publication in the Telegraph, can enjoy a range of three-star hotels in Corfu, Turkey and Greece for just £5 (around 5.57 euro) a night in May.
Bargains are to be had both in transportation and accommodation, the newspaper wrote. Experts say smaller travel companies and airlines have started cutting their fares, and are doing so far earlier in the holiday season than normal – while it is not rare to see an occasional offering for a hotel room for £10 (around 11.12 euro) in June, £5 a night deals on sale in February is unheard of.
“The impact of the recession on flight and holiday prices in 2009 is evident and means there are some fabulous bargains for travellers,” Francesca Ecsery, general manager of Cheapflights.co.uk, said. The cut prices mean that travellers this year will be able to get a considerably cheaper summer holiday this year compared with 2008, even with the poor exchange rates, Graham Donoghue, managing director of the website
TravelSupermarket.com, told the publication. “I am surprised by quite how good the deals are at the moment,” he added.
The great deals extend not just to accommodation prices, but to transportation and holiday packages as well. Eurostar has cut most of its tickets by nearly 40 per cent and Ryanair is offering one million seats for just £5. For March, some ski packages have been cut by over a half for the Alps – which are incidentally enjoying the best levels of snow for at least 25 years.
